FAR 17.8 Reverse Auction Requirements

Posted by Unison

Critical information on which requirements are a good fit for FAR Part 17.8 Reverse Auctions

Which types of requirements are a good fit for the new Special Contracting Method in FAR Part 17.8 Reverse Auctions? The answer might surprise you. Think: subsistence (food) purchasing for correctional facilities, Catholic Priest services in and outside of the United States (yes, they have to be SAM-registered too), and goats for fire suppression.

Over the course of this blog series, you have learned FAR 17.8 Special Contracting Methods was created to encourage use of reverse auctions in August 2024. You’ve checked whether your agency still needs to put a no-cost contract in place, and you understand a good person to own the program is over the commercial item SAT requirements, in the strategic solutions/category management team, or OSDBU thanks to the 94% of awards going to small businesses via Unison’s reverse auction tool, Unison Marketplace.

Now it’s time to consider which actions are and are not a good fit. Good news is, the FAR has addressed this and Unison has additional advice. Contact Greg.Young@unisonglobal.com to schedule a dedicated conversation for your agency’s unique needs.

Other Unison Marketplace capabilities may surprise you. For agencies experiencing friction, low customer satisfaction, and too much back and forth between the Program Office, Contracting team, and industry, take a look at its Collaborative Procurement Process workflows. Bringing the Program office in earlier creates ready-to-award packages for Contracting Officers that can reduce PALT from an average 28 days to 1 day,” shared Greg Young, General Manager at Unison.

It is essential your agency has its reverse auction program implemented in FY25. To schedule a discussion or demo for your organization or to hear how other Federal Civilian and DoD agencies are already utilizing reverse, contact Greg Young at Greg.Young@UnisonGlobal.com.
